Running for Change

As I’ve reshaped my goals to line up with my new, healthier lifestyle and am working on being active, fit and healthy rather than just dropping weight, I’ve seen my thought-patterns shifting as well.

I used to devour information on exercise, diet and nutrition as it related to weight loss. I’d seek out weight-loss bloggers; buy every magazine I could that offered food and exercise tips to lose weight; read websites, books and articles that gave me any hints to success. But now those thoughts and actions are shifting. It’s all about running rather than losing weight.

Old Way of Thinking

  • Must get more information about how to lose weight
  • Must join groups and organizations to learn how to lose weight
  • Must lift weights to build muscle to lose weight
  • Must watch what I eat to lose weight
  • Must drink water to lose weight
  • Must sleep more to lose weight
  • Must not rest my body to lose weight
  • Must run to lose weight

New Way of Thinking

  • Must get more information about how to be a better runner
  • Must join groups and organizations to learn how to be a better runner
  • Must lift weight to build muscle to be a better runner
  • Must fuel my body to be a better runner
  • Must drink water to stay hydrated to be a better runner
  • Must sleep to refuel to be a better runner
  • Must rest my body to be a better runner
  • Must run to be a better runner

I love running. So very much.

“This sport is the sport to see what you are made of, so use those experts’ advice, but be free to be your own champion runner, picking and choosing advice you enjoy and that works best for you.” ~Bill Rodgers
